Flash flooding and freak winds in Calderdale - with more rain to come

Motorists around Calderdale are recovering from flash floods across the district this morning. (Saturday)

Flash floods last night (Friday) resulted in police advising drivers to take care - particularly when trying to drive to Todmorden from Hebden Bridge, due to heavy amounts of water.

Although all roads were passable with care, surface water caused problems at the turning circle at Hebden Bridge, and near Bridgeholme Cricket Club, Shaw Wood Road, Lob Mill and Springs Garage in Todmorden.

A freak gust of wind also brought trees down in Cragg Road, which was closed while they were removed.

Today the weather’s not forecast to be quite as bad, with rain only predicted at around 8am and then not until later into the afternoon - from 6pm onwards.

It is set to continue from then onwards into the night though, with some showers perhaps heavy and thundery.
