How Calderdale is bracing itself for Storm Dennis after amber weather warning is issued

Calderdale Council has revealed it is making preparations for Storm Dennis after a weather warning was issued for Yorkshire.

The Met Office has issued an amber warning for rain in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

The warning comes into force on Saturday at 3pm and is in place until Sunday 3pm.

Calderdale Council has confirmed it is preparing for bad weather as the borough still comes to terms with the damage left by the floods left by Storm Ciara.

A spokesperson said: "We are working closely with partners to assess how we can mitigate any potential threats. Teams are out checking vulnerable infrastructure and the Council's emergency control room and community support hubs will be open in case of any possible impacts.

What the Met Office says and the forecast ahead

Spells of heavy and prolonged rain are expected to affect parts of England and Wales over the weekend with a higher likelihood of impacts now expected in some areas.

Around 20-40 mm of rain will fall widely with 50-80 mm likely across parts of northern and southern England.

Over the higher ground of Wales and southwest England, 120-140 mm of rain is possible in a few locations. This rain is expected to fall across areas already wet from recent rainfall.

Homes and businesses are likely to be flooded, causing damage to some buildings

Fast flowing or deep floodwater is likely, causing danger to life

Delays and some cancellations to train and bus services are likely

Power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses likely
