A DANCE teacher has won a 2011 UK Franchissee of the Year Award.
Wendy Orrell, of Todmorden, has run a Helen O’Grady Dance Academy for seven years.
The award is given for outstanding work among the academy’s students.
“Receiving this award is satisfying as it recognises the efforts of many people,” she said.
“I am grateful for the work of my teachers and the support of parents, without which we could not be successful.
“Local schools, with whom we work closely, have made a huge contribution to our work.” Mrs Orrell, a former school teacher, runs classes in the Upper Calder Valley and Lancashire through her Oldham academy.
Students are aged from five to 17 and are taught life skills through drama.
With the lessons come the benefits of confidence, self-steem and communication skills.
