Westgate raises the bar with £337,000 revamp

The bar, situated between the Westgate Arcade and the recently reopened Piece Hall in Halifax Town Centre, will receive a total revamp.

The pub will be completely refurbished inside and out, designed to bring it up to date and appeal to shoppers, theatre goers and visitors to the Piece Hall wanting a great place in which to have a relaxing drink or bite to eat.

The company is also hoping to attract a local entrepreneur to come on board and create a ‘vibrant town centre eating and drinking venue’ at the establishment.

Plans include installing a new kitchen on the first floor from which tapas and sharing platters will be served.

On the ground floor there will be an industrial style contemporary bar.

A relaxed ambience will be created through an eclectic mix of furniture and pared-back features like rustic timber and tiled flooring, distressed beams and exposed brickwork.

A group of students from Leeds Beckett University shared ideas for the redevelopment of The Westgate as part of their degree work.

Star Pubs and Bars took on board their research about this area of Halifax and incorporated some ideas from their mood boards when creating the concept for the proposed redevelopment of the pub.

Star Pubs and Bars business development manager, Anthony Briggs, who is also Halifax Cricket League chairman said: “The Westgate pub is in a fantastic location near the Westgate Arcade shopping area.

“The planned investment will give it the boost needed to realise its potential.

“We’re now looking for a like-minded local entrepreneur who shares our vision and ambition for the site to partner with us to breathe new life into the pub and create a vibrant town centre eating and drinking venue.”

Star Pubs and Bars recently purchased 1,900 pubs from Punch Taverns including over 30 new sites in the Halifax and Huddersfield area in March earlier this year.
