The building on Commercial Street closed down in September last year as the Post Office moved its operations into a counter at WHSmith in Market Street - 250 metres away.

Halifax MP Holly Lynch and Calderdale councillors raised concerns the move would deliver a poorer service, leave another historical building vacant and divert shoppers away from the top end of town

Now, Walker Singleton Chartered Surveyors have marketing the building to let.

In its brochure they said: “The property occupies an extremely prominent position along Commercial Street in the heart of Halifax Town Centre opposite Harvey’s Department Store and Lloyds Bank.

“The property briefly comprises the former Halifax central Post Office with ground floor retail sales accommodation benefiting from one large open plan sales with counter, suspended ceilings, Private offices/meeting rooms, ancillary storerooms and loading bay, basement accommodation, kitchen and WCs, and disabled access provision.”
