britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Gareth Oliver could soon be sailing away with a cruise ship crown.
The Southowram ventriloquist has been entertaining holidaymakers on luxury liners since his appearance on the ITV talent show in 2009.
Now he is in the running for the title of Princess Cruises’ Entertainer of the Year – and he needs your votes.
The 31-year-old said: “It is an honour because I have sat and watched so many great acts and thought ‘How am I going to follow this?’
“So to be actually recognised among my peers is amazing. I can’t believe it.
“Britain’s Got Talent was great but a lot of people who entered that were amateur performers. This is out of 2,000 professional perfomers, so it’s a real honour.”
Four finalists have already been chosen for the finals, which will be held onboard the Ruby Princess liner in April.
Gareth is now battling it out with two other acts in the cruise company’s Facebook Favourite competition for the fifth spot.
He was in the lead in the poll on the social networking site as the Courier went to press last night, but every vote counts.
“I’ve got to drum up as much support as I can,” he said. Gareth has pledged to put on a free show in Halifax as a thank you if he makes it to the final.
Guests on the Ruby Princess cruise to the eastern Caribbean will vote for the ultimate winner.
As well as the title, the winning performer will get a cash prize, plus on- board perks.
Jan Swartz, executive vice-president of the Princess Cruises, said: “Because of the remarkable calibre of the more than 2,000 guest entertainers who perform on our ships, we’ve created this award to recognise the impressive level of talent we showcase at sea.”
