Woman dies after being hit by car in Huddersfield

A 74-year-old woman from Cleckheaton man has died after being hit by a car in Huddersfield.

The Major Collision Enquiry Team would like to speak to anyone who has information about the incident which took place at about 7.32pm on Fitzwilliam Street in Huddersfield on Monday November 3.

It occurred after a Toyota Aygo left the Castlegate Loop and entered Fitzwilliam Street.

It was then in collision with a 74 year-old female pedestrian before further colliding with a silver Peugeot car.

The 74-year-old, who is from Cleckheaton, was pronounced to have passed away at the scene.

An 18-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

PC Jeremy Hepworth of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “We are investigating this incident this morning and are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the collision or the manner in which the black Aygo was being driven just before the collision.

“An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the incident and remains in police custody for questioning.

“Anyone who has information is asked to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101.”
