Woman inappropriately touched on Huddersfield train

British Transport Police officers have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to after a 19-year-old woman was touched inappropriately on a train between Leeds and Huddersfield.

The incident happened at around 5.10pm on Monday, August 18.

PC Mark Hibbert: “The victim, from Glossop, was sitting on her own on the train when a man came and sat next to her.

“As the train left Leeds, the man began to stroke her legs and thighs. She attempted to make him stop by moving her legs. The man persisted and continued to touch her throughout the journey till he got off the train at Huddersfield.

“The victim was understandably extremely shaken, and we would commend her for coming forward to report what must have been a very upsetting incident.

“We take any form of unwanted sexual behaviour such as this extremely seriously, and we are committed to tackling these offences in whatever form they take.

“Thankfully crimes of this nature are infrequent on the railway but, when they do happen, they are all the more frightening because of the relatively-confined space.

“We have undertaken a number of enquiries already in an attempt to trace the man pictured, who we believe will be able to help with our enquiries, but with no luck, we are hoping that by releasing his image someone may recognise him and come forward.”

If you know the man, or can assist the investigation in any way, please ring British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 40 50 40 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
