Woman killed by train in Hipperholme

A woman has died in Hipperholme after she was hit by a train.

The woman was struck just before 6.15pm by the Manchester to Leeds Northern Rail Service close to Hipperholme Tunnel near Halifax on Monday evening.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesperson said; “‘BTP Officers attended the line close to Hipperholme Tunnel East End, Hipperholme, Halifax, West Yorkshire on Monday December 29 2014 after a report that a woman had been struck by a train.

“Officers from BTP and West Yorkshire Police attended the incident which was reported to police at 6.14pm and is currently being treated as non suspicious.

“Paramedics also attended but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.”

A file will be prepared for the Coroner.

The incident caused two hour delays for rail passengers on surrounding routes as affected rail services were delayed or cancelled.
