More than a hundred women attended the Park Ward Women’s Empowerment Campaign held at Queen’s Road Neighbourhood Centre, Halifax.
The event, organised by coun Jenny Lynn (Lab, Park) and campaigner Surraya Bibi, heard keynote speeches about the need for women to be active in public life from Calderdale Mayor Lisa Lambert and the Deputy Mayoress Shaheen Ali.
Coun Ali Miles (Lab, Calder) then introduced a discussion on the need to campaign to safeguard NHS services at Calderdale Royal Hospital.
The event concluded with short speeches by Deputy Mayor Ferman Ali and Coun Faisal Shoukat (Lab, Park), who paid tribute to the many women who had played such a vital role in the recent election campaign.
Coun Lynn said: “We were thrilled at such a great turnout. Lots of women told us how strongly they feel about the need to save our local hospital services.
“The Women’s Empowerment Campaign is here to stay.”
