Work starts on outdoor gym in Wellholme Park

Work has started on a new outdoor gym in Wellholme Park, Brighouse.

NHS Calderdale and Calderdale Council have worked together on the project as part of the Healthy Towns programme with the aim of promoting health and wellbeing in the community.

The planned Outdoor Gym will consist of free-to-use equipment that is low impact and includes a variety of exercises everybody can try, with a mixture of cardiovascular and toning stations.

Assistant Cabinet Member for Health Inequalities, Councillor Simon Young, said: “As part of the Healthy Towns programme, we have installed outdoor gyms across Calderdale to promote health and wellbeing in our communities, with support from the NHS.

Work has started on an outdoor gym in Wellholme Park and is expected to be finished within the next few weeks.

“This will be great for the people of Brighouse - with over 5,000 people living within half a mile of this site. The gym will provide free-to-use equipment that is low impact and will include a variety of exercises that everybody can try.

“Outdoor gyms have been built across the country, offering people a cheap, easy and fun way to get fit close to where they live. We chose the location by the cafe after the success of this position at the Manor Heath Park outdoor gym.” The council is expecting work to be finished this month.
