THIS Calderdale’s chippie’s chunky chips could win him a national award.

Mark’s Fry-Days, in Lightcliffe Road, Brighouse, is in the running for The Choice Chip Awards.

The contest is being run to celebrate Chip Week, between February 20 and February 26. The Brighouse takeaway has received more than 800 votes online so far.

Owner Mark Keenan said: “I think people love the character of our shop and our fish and chips.

“We only use Icelandic haddock.”

Mark, 43, has had the shop for nine months. He previously worked for Calderdale Council’s youth and community service.

“I fancied a change,” he said. “After 23 years of working for the youth and community service I wanted to do something that was still community-orientated. I was also fed up with anaemic-looking chips and soggy batter.

“We want as much support as possible. We want to win this for Calderdale.”
