A THUG who beat up and threatened to kill his pregnant partner has been branded a coward by a judge.

Marvin McDonagh, 39, told his Halifax girlfriend: “I’m going to kill you. You’re going to die tonight.”

The assault took place at the victim’s house following a night out in Halifax town centre in last December.

The couple had been in a relationship for eight weeks, although during sentencing Bradford Crown Court heard how McDonagh’s partner had unsuccessfully tried to end the relationship several weeks earlier.

She was carrying McDonagh’s child when he burst into her house, pinned her to the floor by her throat and slapped her around the face, leaving her with blood pouring down her swollen face.

The attack was halted when the victim told McDonagh someone was at the door. A neighbour called police after hearing her screaming.

McDonagh admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was given a safer relationships community order and will be under supervision for 18 months. Judge James Stewart told McDonagh: “To hit a woman at all is cowardice, but to hit a woman who is pregnant is just downright dangerous.

“I reserve any breach of the order to myself and if you re-offend I will be sending you to prison.”

McDonagh, of Thornton, Bradford, is now back with the woman.
