Young award winners celebrated for their achievements

Motivational speaker Paul ‘the bullet man’ Kerfoot was the guest of honour and presented the awards to pupils at the ceremony.

Head teacher Liz Cresswell said that this year group has been notable for its willingness to be involved in the life of the school, to make a contribution beyond the classroom and to fully embrace what it means to be a Brighouse High student.

“They have excelled as a year group especially in their fund raising activities which started early in year seven with the Great Brighouse Bake Off and has continued this year with fundraising activities as wide as hot dog sales, raffles and a tattoo studio– temporary tattoos I need to say.”

The school’s theme for the year was positive mindsets and using the power of thinking positively to ensure that everyone aimed high and achieved their goals.

At Key Stage 4 , 94 per cent of Year 11 pupils achieved five A*- C grades and 70 per cent achieved this benchmark figure including English and Mathematics –for the last four years the school has maintained a 70 per cent average for this key figure placing us favourably when compared to other schools locally and to similar school nationally.

“This September we look forward to another successful year at Brighouse High.

“We have a challenging year ahead; the students here will be the first to sit some of the new GCSE exams graded nine to one for instance,” said Mrs Cresswell.

“But over the past three years I have got to know this year group well and am convinced they are ready for the challenge.

“I expect them to continue to do well and to break records when they sit exams next year.

“It is no easy task to decide on prizewinners when a year group has so many positive and hardworking students- the award winners here tonight truly deserve the prizes they are about to receive.

“I am proud of them and I’m sure that families, friends and those associated with school feel that way too,” Mrs Cresswell told the audience.
