There was double joy for a Halifax band last weekend after they won two competitions on consecutive days.
The Halifax Boys Brigade and Girls Brigade won the Brigades Showcase Contest in Stoke on Saturday and followed that up with a win in the first ever Musical Revolution contest at the Horsfall Stadium in Bradford on Sunday.
They were the only band in their class on Sunday, meaning that taking home all eight trophies up for grabs was inevitable, but drum instructor Robert Batty said he was more impressed that the band were able to compete in two competitions over one weekend.
“It’s been a really hard weekend for the members, some of them having to battle with exam revision – others battle with it being their first time in front of an audience.
“A lot of the new members had never picked up a musical instrument before they joined, never mind play it while perform a marching show in front of an audience full of complete strangers. When I got home and let everything sink in it’s almost unbelievable.
“What’s been really rewarding as an instructor is being able to see not just all the hard work pay off, but see the kids really enjoy themselves.”
