Canal users must be given safety rules

I agree with Caroline Trigg’s comments (Your Say 7 Oct) on the towpath but I don’’t think anything has been mentioned regarding the health and safety aspect.

A case in point is the photo of the anglers and their rods, especially the man in red’s rod taking up most of the towpath - surely that in itself should be banned.

Why can’t they prop them upright when not in use?

I feel sorry for anyone trying to get past, whether a walker, jogger, pram pusher, wheelchair user, cyclist or angler, and hate to think of the consequences should there be a genuine accident (not the one where the angler pushed the cyclist into the water!)

A firm resolution has to be agreed upon and made before someone gets hurt.
