When they built the new houses in Copley village they made sure the houses were built up, in case of flooding and when they pulled the old foundry down the same was done for the new houses there.

Two years ago our cellar was flooded and it nearly came into the house. When the late Councillor Wainwright came down to look he said they should clear the River Calder out, ie, it is full of rubbish. There is an island full of soil and old trees.

This needs to be cleaned from Sowerby Bridge right to West Vale, dredged out all through.
