Heywood plaque moved to make way for new organ

Recently, the 1902 memorial plaque to Rev. Oliver Heywood in the Holdsworth Chapel at Halifax Minster, has been moved to a location on the south wall.

This is to enable the imminent installation of the Snetzler Chamber Organ, currently at Horbury Convent, at the west end of the chapel. This organ was built in 1770 for John Waterhouse of Well Head, one of the original trustees of the Halifax Parish Church Snetzler Organ of 1766. I have a personal interest in Oliver Heywood, for my mother’s many-times great-uncle Dr Thomas Whitaker (1651-1710), minister of Call Lane Chapel, Leeds, was imprisoned in York Castle with Heywood in 1683, was a close friend of his. Whitaker features many times in Heywood’s diaries. I attach a photo of the Heywood plaque in its new position.
