It was good to read “Exciting times in Sowerby Bridge and Ripponden” in the Shop Local section in the Courier 14th June. During my forty two years here, I have seen many changes, many for the better. I understand that when John Wesley (the founder of the Methodist Church) rode through the Calder Valley, he though it was the nicest place this side of Heaven, and my perception of the Ryburne Valley is something similar. At that time, in the 1700’s, these two valley must have been little more than swamps! If Sowerby Bridge and Ripponden continue to improve at the present rate, we might have to keep the impending tide of tourists out! Only joking!
