My father ran 1930s sweet shop

Further to your article on page 43 of the Halifax Courier on Friday March 29, 2013, regarding the Wroot’s Cycle World.

I left Halifax in 1945, just after VE Day. In the early 1930s my father ran a sweet shop at 9 New Road, next door to Bert Wroot’s cycle shop. Not as you printed ‘Prescott Street’. I think, in more recent times the cycle company bought the premises of 9 New Road and extended their showrooms to include no. 9. New Road runs from the Royal Oak Hotel, opposite what used to be the Palace Theatre to the Druid’s Arms Inn. Prescott Street runs from Halifax Modern School to School Street down by the railway. This reminiscing brings back lots of memories for me. I liked Halifax - and still do - but as I was only a child at the time of relocation I had no choice in the matter. Now I am too old to start relocating my residence.
