My favourite two weekends

Coming up are two of my favourite weekends of the year: August Bank Holiday (26th – 29th August) and First Weekend of September (2nd – 5th).

Why?

Because that is when Sowerby Bridge hosts three events that place the town firmly on the cultural map.

First off there is the excellent Puzzle Hall Music Festival on August Bank Holiday weekend.

For those who are fans of real live alternative, jazz, blues and folk music, with a selection of real ales and ciders, then this is the place to come watch local and regional talents for free.

Then the following weekend is the Rushbearing (going since 1977), and Norland Scarecrow Trail, now in its 11th year, the theme being pop stars and groups. A family fun weekend out of traditions and customs, marking for many the winding down of summer and the start of the new school year.

As the former ward councillor for 12 years I recommend people in Calderdale and beyond, from all walks of life and cultural backgrounds; to come along no matter who you are.

You are assured a very warm welcome from a town, which for me; holds many fond memories.
