Substantial savings to be made by Council in IT

Beechwood Avenue

With the recent consultation on Calderdale Council’s budget I would like to suggest the Council IT systems adopt Open Source Software such as Linux and Oracle’s Open Office. These systems can replace Windows and MS Office without the cost of licences. This should produce a substantial annual cost saving to the council, releasing further funds for front end services.

Again Britain’s National and Local Governments have been slow to adopt these cost savings, while the whole German government switched over to Linux several years ago and have embraced open source software. If these systems were rolled out in our local schools the cost savings would be very substantial.
