60 Coniston Road
As an exiled Yorkshireman living in Kent (for the last 45 years!) I have unsuccessfully been trying to find a beer down here that brings back the taste of the much lamented Websters that I remember from the 1960s and 1970s. The Websters bitter was a strange almost ‘floral’ tasting beer - I assume it was down to the special hops they used rather than the malt or spring water.
I was wondering whether anyone amongst your readers, perhaps some ex-employee of the brewery, would be able to enlighten me as to what the hops were in the beer. Then I can try and search out microbreweries which are using this hop. I would love to be able to taste the special flavour of Halifax again which the Websters’ beer embodied.
