Yvette Fielding, 36, was born in Manchester and made her TV debut during her early teens in the 1983 drama series Seaview.
She’s best known for co-presenting long-running children’s programme Blue Peter, but has now become the face of LivingTV’s smash hit series Most Haunted.
Yvette lives in Cheshire with her husband Karl Beattie and their two children William, 10, and Mary, five.
WHAT’S YOUR DREAM SATURDAY NIGHT?
“Karl keeps telling me about the Raffles Hotel in Singapore, so I think I’d like to spend an evening there and be completely pampered. Or I would love to go to a Forties big band revival night in costume and have all that Glenn Miller going on. That would be amazing.”
WHAT DO YOU DO TO GET READY FOR IT?
“If I’m going somewhere nice, then I really like to make an effort and dress up, but if it’s a night in, I just throw on my pyjamas.”
IF YOU COULD MAKE ONE LAW FOR SATURDAY NIGHTS, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
“No fighting - how boring is that?”
WHAT’S THE BEST SATURDAY NIGHT OUT YOU’VE EVER HAD?
The best would have to be when my husband took me out on a date to a very nice Italian restaurant, and we were talking about the places I wanted to visit. I told him I’d love to go to Rome, and he looked at me and said ’I’m going to take you there’. I knew right then he was the man I was going to marry.”
AND THE WORST?
“That would have to be when I was on Blue Peter, and I was 17 and went to my first London party. I was so nervous, I downed a huge amount of vodka and I was so ill. I was at the party for about half an hour, then had to be taken home in a taxi - literally two people carried me into it - then driven home and put to bed. I vowed never to have an evening like that again.”
WHO WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO SPEND YOUR WEEKEND WITH?
“It would have to be Billy Connolly, Dawn French, Peter Kay, Lee Evans, Karl and myself - piles of good food and loads of laughs.”
DO YOU LIVE FOR THE WEEKEND/FREE TIME?
“Yes, because we get to go out with the children on a Saturday, then on the night we hire a couple of family films, eat a nice takeaway and enjoy a glass of wine. To me that is Heaven, because we’re away so much it’s really nice to be together. When we filmed abroad, we found it hard to be away from the children for long, so we’ve decided they will come with us in future.”
WHAT SORT OF A SUNDAY PERSON ARE YOU?
“Busy. I have to get up at the crack of dawn unfortunately. I have two young children and a horse to look after.”
HOW DO YOU HANDLE HANGOVERS?
“I don’t have them - not since I was a youngster. It might sound boring but I don’t like being out of control. I’ll have two glasses of wine and that’s it. I don’t like the feeling of having a hangover. When you’ve got kids, you have to be on top, you can’t be going to bed drunk in case one of them wakes up with a temperature. I went for it when I was a teenager, but when you have children that has to change.”
WHICH CITY IS BEST FOR NIGHTLIFE AND WHY?
“Edinburgh. It’s an amazing place, just fantastic. We’ve done quite a bit of filming up there for Most Haunted and we loved it, all the bars were open late and the people were fantastic, there are so many restaurants to choose from. It’s a really special place. When we go out anywhere nice in Scotland, Karl insists on wearing a kilt - but he draws the line at taking his underwear off!”
WHAT DID YOU GET UP TO LAST WEEKEND AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING THIS WEEKEND?
“Last weekend we were on holiday in Cyprus, we spent a week with the children and Karl’s parents. It was a real kiddie holiday, although it was a bit weird because we kept being ’spotted’ by British tourists over there. This weekend we will be packing up our bits and bobs as we’re moving house. It’s a bit boring but crucial.”
