Adwalton’s Halifax League approach

The Foster’s Halifax League has had an approach about membership from Adwalton CC.

League secretary Neil Myers, back from a holiday in Sydney, said Adwalton had received permission from the Central Yorkshire League to speak to other leagues.

Drighlington-based Adwalton are disappointed by the CYCL management committee’s decision to bring in separate first and second team competitions for the 2014 season.

Adwalton had teams in divisions three and four in 2013.

Halifax League chiefs would like a 36-club competition - they currently have 30 - but existing members have shown a reluctance to travel far outside Calderdale.

However, Cullingworth have joined the league for this summer. Upper Hopton’s hopes of joining them in 2015 rest on a vote of Halifax League clubs next month.

The earliest Adwalton could switch leagues would be 2016, unless granted permission to leave the CYCL early.

Todmorden CC has its first female president in the club’s 176-year history.

Elizabeth Whittaker, the Lancashire League club’s long-serving membership secretary, was elected unanimously at the Centre Vale Park club’s annual general meeting.

She replaces Malcolm Heywood, who has stepped down.
