Big scalp for Lightcliffe

LIGHTCLIFFE were cock-a-hoop after toppling runaway Bradford League leaders Woodlands by 15 runs on Saturday.

Jonathan Wilson’s fourth-placed side dismissed their hosts for 169 after racking up a competitive 220 for six.

A second wicket stand of 99 between Chris Taylor (63) and Alex Stead (55) laid the foundations for Lightcliffe’s total and spinners Suleman Khan (four for 39) and Chris Greenwood (three for 58) did the rest.

Woodlands were warming up for today’s Priestley Cup final against Keighley, who battered Brighouse by 164 runs in Division Two.

Umar Salim took three wickets but Dan Dunkerley (20) and Chris Maloney (16) were the only players in double figures as Brighouse’s batting failed again and they were bowled out for 60.

Illingworth blasted themselves back into promotion contention in Division Three of the Aire/Wharfe League with a crushing eight-wicket home win over Horsforth, skittling their Leeds opponents for 32.

This was the second lowest ever score registered by Aire/Wharfe opponents and the lowest for 44 years since Green Lane were routed for 25 in 1968.

Jamie Moorhouse led the way with a career best of eight for 16 in 12 overs, the best bowling performance by an Illingworth player for nine years.

Moorhouse mesmorised the visitors with his accurate away swing which included a succession of leg before decisions in the heavy atmosphere, as well as ripping the visitors’ middle order to shreds with three wickets in four balls.

The Jammy Green men lost two early wickets before Richard Farrell Smith hit two big sixes in an unbeaten 22 to help finish it.

Northowram Fields were plunged deeper into relegation trouble in the Central Yorkshire League’s top flight when they were bowled out for 58 in reply to hosts Hunslet Nelson’s 185.

The Rams’ hopes had soared earlier in the contest when Nelson were 56 for seven, only to fight back through Michael Lambert, who made 62 and then took seven for 25.

Elland and Barkisland remain second in their Huddersfield League sections after home wins.

West Indian Lorenzo Ingram made 220 for six at home to Scholes, who were without the prolific Wasim Jaffer and were limited to 174 for eight in reply.

Chris Goulden (four for 38) and Ingram (three for 71) again took the pace off the ball to good effect.

Alex Kaye made 122 for Barkisland in the middle section before watching his former SBCI teammates lift the Halifax Parish Cup 24 hours later.

Kaye and fellow opener Dan Sykes (80) had Barkisland on top from the start against Broad Oak and skipper Darren Robinson’s 58 not out lifted the total to 298 for four.

Broad Oak replied with 104, matthew Steers and Callum Thompson taking three wickets apiece.

Todmorden’s Lancashire League title hopes suffered a setback when they lost by 45 runs at home to Haslingden.

Qaiser Abbas took seven for 87 but it took him a long time to claim the wicket of opener Graham Knowles, who made 102 from 146 balls.

Haslingden made 205 for nine and that was beyond the home side in spite of 40 from Simon Newbitt and 34 from Abbas.

Left arm spinner Garry Sudworth did the damage with seven for 55.
