Sanasy stars as Halifax boxing show proves a winner

The Halifax club had nine boxers in action, with two competing for Yorkshire belts. 
The highlights were Dylan Daly winning unanimously against  Kian Hamilton, from Doncaster, and 13-year-old Joe Turner winning unanimously in his first contest against Adam Bellew from Bridlington.
Turner also went on to win Juniors Boxer of the Night after a brilliant performance. 
Halifax’s Lewis Parkinson lost a close contest against Tigers ABC Leeds’ Shakeil Iqbal for the 60kg Yorkshire belt in a scrap that could have gone either way. 
But Halifax’s Rhys Sanasy made up for it when he beat Isaac Price, of Purge ABC Bradford, for the 64kg belt, winning unanimously in what was the fight of the night.
Jonah Carroll had the referee stop his match in the second round with his opponent Anthony Wilsher,  from Jorvik ABC in York, unable to continue after some heavy shots from the Halifax boxer. 
Halifax coach Mick Rowe said: “It was a great show and we hope to do this every year for Yorkshire Timber making it a great event.”  
The club’s next show is in April, which is a charity show for Overgate Hospice, The Martin Lewis Cup.

Halifax gained another champion on Sunday when Daniel Stockton’s opponent withdrew from the Yorkshire 60kg final.  
Daniel had beaten T. Naismith in the semi-finals the week before and was due to box D. Penney from the De Hood ABC, Sheffield, only for him to pull out the day before.  
Daniel will now box in the regional quarter finals. 
Rowe said: “Daniel has worked hard and is another rising star at Halifax.”
