Brods shine on east coast

When the home front row was penalised, the ball was moved inside from the tap-penalty to big Pete Williams, who powered over for the opening try after four minutes. Fly-half Dan Wood was unable to convert.

The visiting backs were troubling the Seasiders, who nevertheless drew level on 11 minutes when slick handling paved the way for full-back Graeme Jeffrey to drive over.

Brods lost a player sin-binned in the 20th minute but Scarborough failed to batter their way over from close range and had to settle for a Tom Harrison penalty on the stroke of half-time to lead 8-5.

Harnessing the stiff northerly breeze, Brods took the game to Intermediate Cup semi-finalists Scarborough and camped in the home half.

Scarborough attempted to keep things tight and although Brods looked to have more of a cutting edge, they were met by good defence.

Wood levelled the scores with a penalty on the hour and Williams burrowed over from short range five minutes later to nudge them 13-8 ahead.

Brods were now on top and Australian second row Sterling Ross battered his way through the middle and stretched the lead to 18-8 in the 73rd minute. Wood converted.

Scarborough finished strongly but Brods were not to be denied a third successive Yorkshire One win.
