Calder Valley's Holly Page wins second World Series title with emphatic victory in Catalonia

Holly Page won her second Skyrunning World Series event at the weekend - a 42k trail race at the Maurici Lake National Park in Catalonia, Spain.

The race was part of the Buff Mountain Festival and had 404 runners from 19 countries competing in the Pyrenees with 3,325m of climbing in hot conditions.

The Calder Valley Fell Runner led throughout to win in 5.03.40.

She finished 24 minutes ahead of the next woman and was the 17th person to cross the finish line after being beaten by only 16 male runners.

She said: “Normally I set off too slowly so I decided to go out hard from the start.”

“It was amazing being on the ridge at the top and enjoying the views.”

Back home, the heatwave failed to deter Calder Valley’s endurance runners as they took on the Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon.

Bill Johnson went solo in the two-day self-sustained mountain navigation race in the Lake District while Jackie and Phil Scarf teamed up in male and female pairs.

Provisional results show Phil and Mark Ryde were first in their class while Jackie and Debbie Ryde finished sixth overall and second in the ladies’ vets.

In the BOFRA races, Ben Mounsey made a fiery return to the fells after injury, coming first at the Kirkby Gala event.
