Bank Holiday success for trio

Lightcliffe, beaten at Hanging Heaton two days earlier, were 89-run winners at bottom club Saltaire in Division One of the Bradford League.

Skipper Alex Stead made a patient 60 at the top of the order and overseas man Suleman Khan gave the innings real momentum with 107, including nine maximums, as the visitors totalled 236 for eight.

Saltaire managed only 147 in reply with teenage spinner Daanyaal Ahmed taking four for 17.

Elland started the day bottom of the Huddersfield League’s top flight but climbed three places with a nervy three-run win at Kirkburton.

Skipper Paul Winrow made 81 and Robin Broom 51 in their 201 for seven and that proved just enough as Kirkburton were limited to 198 for nine.

Barkisland recovered from defeat at Skelmanthorpe with a convincing 110-run home win over Broad Oak.

They were helped by a fine knock of 136 from young Luke Bridges, the former Sowerby St Peters player.

Skipper Darren Robinson added 57 and overseas man Tim Seifert 32 as Barkisland totalled 255 and Robinson completed a fine match with four for 20 as Broad Oak were limited to 145.

There were also three wickets each for Alex Scholefield and spinner Chris Williams as Barkisland cemented fifth place.

Brighouse were unable to make it a three-day double in Division Two of the Bradford League, losing by seven wickets at Windhill.

Chris Maloney made 39 down the order in Brighouse’s 188 but his team suffered at the hands of overseas player Muhammad Yasin, who followed up his four for 44 with 46 not out.
