Barkisland retain Shield

Callum Thompson’s side recovered from a shaky start in the second teams’ final.

They were 18 for two and 47 for four before a stand of 100 between David Weston (57) and Jamie Colman (47) started to turn the game around.

Late runs from Charlie Cocking (29) and Paul Dawson (15) helped Barkisland to a competitive 218 with the last wicket falling in the 50th and final over.

The home side slumped from 43 for one in the 17th over to 58 for five.

A 65-run stand between Mark Floyd (47) and Duane Holmes (18) temporarily revived Scholes but they lost their last five wickets for 15 runs and were all out for 138.

Cocking was the most successful bowler with three for 38.

Barkisland were completing a 2016 cup double, their thirds have previously won the Halifax Sunday League’s Rod Warhurst Trophy.

Todmorden got back to winning ways in the Lancashire League with an emphatic eight-wicket home win over Church.

They were avenging their defeat in the T20 final by the same opponents at Centre Vale nine days earlier.

Church were dismissed for just 89 with pro Zain Abbas (40) and ex-Tod man Bilal Abbas (15) the only visiting batsmen in double figures.

Seamers Matt Collins and Martin Harlow made early inroads before Australian spinner Ashton Turner took four for five and Graham Lalor three for 25.

Tod knocked off the runs inside 19 overs thanks to Simon Newbitt (22), Ben Sutcliffe (19), Turner (17 no) and Kristian Garland (16 no).

They are sixth in the table with six games left.
