They upset Division One leaders and hosts Sowerby St Peter’s by three wickets yesterday, scrambling a single off the final ball to prompt a pitch invasion by their players and supporters.

Chapel will join Premier trio Jer Lane, Mytholmroyd and Triangle in the draw for the last four.

Holders Warley, Southowram, Queensbury and Copley made progress in the second teams’ competition, the Crossley Shield.

The draws will take place at the tea interval of the Sowerby Bridge versus Jer Lane league match on Saturday where league fixture secretary Peter Taylor will be an umpire.

Bridge chairman Steve Jordan, whose side lost to Jer Lane yesterday in the cup, has agreed to help with the draw.

Chapel, the former Wibsey Park Chapel club who moved to Great Horton over the winter, looked to have plenty on their plates when Sowerby piled up 268 after being 134 for five.

Ben Hoyle (49), his brother Matthew (48) and Lyndon Baxter jnr (51) scored well down the order to leave the visitors with a mountain to climb.

Robert Gamble made a swift 34 at the top of the order and Richard Hassall (57) and Adam Beesley (75) - who had scored a century the previously day - helped Chapel to 188 for two.

The visitors needed around 70 runs off the last eight overs but were up to the task with all-rounder Matthew Jordan (38 no) to the fore.

Jordan had only been able to bowl seven overs earlier after pulling a hamstring and faced the final delivery, with the scores level, using Gamble as a runner.

Gamble and Husnain Syed comfortable managed to cross for the winning single and snatch a memorable victory for their side.

Mytholmroyd were comfortable five-wicket winners over Booth in a match which featured two centuries from league side players.

Richard Laycock made 105 for the visitors in front of a big crowd at Moderna Way but the only other contribution of note to the Booth total came from Nigel Horsfall (42).

Laycock was eventually the last man out with Jack Earle (three for 24) the successful bowler.

He was caught on the boundary by Steve Senior, who went on to dominate the home reply with 133 after Earle’s brother Tom had blasted 41 at the top of the order, including a six and a four off Horsfall’s first over of the innings.

‘Royd cruised home with 14 overs to spare.

Triangle posted 306 for eight away to Queensbury, who made 275 for eight in reply, while champions Jer Lane restricted hosts Sowerby Bridge to 200 in reply to their 227 for eight.
