Clubs asked for ground reports

OFFICIALS of the Spenser Wilson Halifax League are to seek the opinions of clubs ahead of next weekend's scheduled start to the season.

Secretary Tim Helliwell has asked clubs to assess their grounds and wickets on Tuesday and those who do not think pitches will be fit for the following weekend should email him by 10pm.

He said that although the weather was forecast to improve dramatically, it was likely that some clubs might not have completed pre-season work.

If clubs did not respond, that would be taken as an indication that their ground could be fit or that the club was happy for the fixtures on April 21/22 to proceed.

Helliwell said there were two choices with regard to the Saturday fixtures; either cancel the whole programme and award each team two points or go ahead and leave the fitness of grounds up to clubs and umpires. However, no fixtures would be re-arranged.

Helliwell said the league executive would make a final decision and clubs would be advised by email by 10am on Wednesday whether the programme would go ahead. A decision on Sunday League matches would also be made.
