Cricket club flooded again

Indefatigable Bridgeholme CC chief Keith Hudson is confident his club will be ready for the start of the Spenser Wilson Halifax League season after suffering again at the hands of the weather last night.

The club’s Eastwood ground, which has been flooded several times in recent years, was fully submerged.

Some of the water had receded by first light today and while many people in Hudson’s position would have been cursing their luck, long-serving groundsman Hudson was thanking his lucky stars.

“I don’t think we got too much silt this time as the river did not come over directly. Phew!” he said.

The flood peaked at about 11pm and Hudson took the photo “as the tide went out.”

He added: “There is just a minimal amount of work to get back to normal and I know a man who can sort it.”

Bridgeholme’s first team will be playing in the Premier Division for the first time this summer, having been belatedly promoted following Cullingworth’s demotion to the bottom division after folding their second team.

Bridgeholme are due to host Oxenhope in their opener on Saturday, April 21, and experienced batsman Hudson is anticipating being involved in the action on that day.
