Green light for Halifax League

The Spenser Wilson Halifax Cricket League's opening programme at the weekend has got the go-ahead.

League chiefs had asked clubs to report back last night on their state of their grounds following a wetter than usual spring.

Cancelling all the games and awarding teams two points was an option the executive would have considered had numerous clubs reported that their pitches were unlikely to be fit for the weekend.

However, secretary Tim Helliwell reported that the vast majority of clubs in the Saturday League and those at home in the Sunday League were optimistic of playing.

“As such the planned programme this weekend will go ahead,” he said.

The Lancashire League and Aire/Wharfe leagues are also due to start this weekend but the Huddersfield and Bradford leagues will wait a further week.
