Nidderdale League: Skipper hails ‘great’ Ouseburn achievement

Saturday’s 68-run victory over Bishop Thornton brought Ouse’ their second league championship in five years, and appeased last year’s final day wobble which handed the trophy to Spofforth.

Morrison admitted the title has yet to sink in, despite his side winning the Division One crown with a week to go.

“It’s a great achievement for everyone at the club not just the first team players,” he said.

“It’s a win for everyone throughout the club, behind the scenes, in the second, third and fourth teams.

“I don’t think it has sunk it for a lot of us though.”

Ouseburn handed the trophy to Spofforth after losing on the final day of the season in 2013.

But Saturday’s win ensured this year’s title race against Pannal would not be as tense.

Morrison added: “Last year was absolutely gutting. It took two or three weeks to get over it.

“It motivated us to go one better. We have managed to go that bit further and win it.

“It’s also nice to put one over Spofforth who said we were chokers last year.”

He added: “We have had a good blend of young and experienced players this year and everyone has chipped in a lot more.”
