Overseas man stars for Brighouse

Overseas player Fakhar Hussain was the star man, hitting 168, hit nine sixes and 13 fours.

That enabled the Russell Way men, who must apply for re-election, to post 272.

Hussain backed up his batting effort with four for 41 and skipper Umar Salim took three for 90 as Gomersal’s bold response was cut short at 231, Jack Seddon top scoring with 68.

Barkisland, already certain to finish an excellent third in the Huddersfield League’s top flight, beat visitors Delph & Dobcross by two runs in a low-scoring thriller.

Barkisland only made 126, with Jamie Summerscales’ 36 the top contribution, but Alex Scholefield took five wickets and spinners Matthew Steers and Chris Williams came up trumps at the end as Delph fell just short.

Ashton Blakey - son of ex-Elland, Yorkshire and England player Richard, made a fine 94 as Elland totalled 193 for eight at home to Kirkburton.

The visitors had reached 117 for four when play was abandoned due to bad light.

Illingworth, already promoted to the middle section of the Aire/Wharfe League, rounded off a successful season with a five run win over Woodhouse.

Overseas player James Whiteley hit 89 and the Brooksby brothers, Veryan (45) and Luke (four wickets), also made valuable contributions.
