Rastrick final resumes tonight

Copley posted 226 for six against favourites Lightcliffe in the Rod Warhurst Cup for third teams before heavy rain at the tea interval meant no more play was possible.

The captains had agreed before the game that play would continue on Monday if the weather intervened.

Copley were sent in and took advantage of warm and sunny weather for most of their innings.

Aidan Edwards made an early breakthrough for Lightcliffe but a second wicket stand of 113 between Nathan Bizley and Chris Kessie laid solid foundations for Copley.

Lightcliffe hit back to reduced Copley to 153 for five, off-spinner Jordan Pickles taking three for 43.

However, Copley added 80 runs off the last 10 overs with Freddie and Tom Hammond to the fore.

Walsden made further progress in the LCB Cup - and made it three wins in three days - with victory at Blackpool yesterday.

They were aided by the weather after wisely electing to field on the west coast.

The hosts, from the Northern League, were 73 for four after 18 overs when play was halted by rain.

The match was reduced to 24 overs per side and Blackpool were bowled out for 93 with paceman Jamie Shackleton and spinner Umesh Karunaratne taking four for five off 14 deliveries.

Ex-skipper Chris Dewhirst (17) was the only casualty as Jake Hooson (34 no) and Nick Barker (39 no) wrapped up victory inside 20 overs.
