Silkstone ton in league side defeat

The Halifax League side was beaten but not disgraced away to the Aire/Wharfe League in yesterday's West Yorkshire Area Council knockout cup semi-final at Guiseley.

They found it hard going with the ball as Aire/Wharfe rattled up 269 for six off their 40 overs with opener George Myers falling four short of a century.

Jack Gledhill (Triangle) and Tom Clee (Northowram HT) each took two wickets.

Halifax made a spirited response, led by skipper Christian Silkstone (Triangle), who made 103. Going in at four, he scored freely after a cautious start and was fourth out with the score on 199.

However, the target proved out of reach and Halifax finished on 237 for eight with Booth’s Rob Laycock (39) and Copley’s Chris Dennison (21) the next top scorers.
