Southowram and Bridge win bowl-offs

Southowram will face Sowerby Bridge in the Foster’s Halifax League’s Rod Warhurst Cup final.

Both sides won bowl-offs yesterday when wet pitches meant not even 10 overs-per-side games were possible in the Sunday Section competition.

The rules state that in such circumstances five bowlers from each side should have two attempts each to hit the wickets from 22 yards.

Southowram won 1-0 at Thornton after a fairly lengthy wait to see whether conditions would improve.

There was no hanging about at saturated Sowerby Bridge, where the other two group winners had been due to meet.

Bridge took an unbeatable 3-1 advantage at home to Northowram Fields after nine attempts each.
