War of Roses clash sold out

Friday’s NatWest T20 Blast match between Yorkshire Vikings and Lancashire Lightning at Headingley will be played in front of a 16,200 capacity crowd.

The last remaining single seats were snapped up this week and for the second successive year the house full signs will be up for the War of the Roses derby clash – in what is the biggest rivalry in county cricket.

Since the Vikings defeated Lancashire in a dramatic final over at Emirates Old Trafford earlier this month, tickets for the return at Headingley have flown out as cricket supporters clamour to be part of the action.

“We could have sold another 5,000 tickets for this match,” said Yorkshire County Cricket Club Chief Executive Mark Arthur.

“The interest in the game has been phenomenal. The ground has been 95 percent sold out for two weeks.

“Selling out the game at Headingley is a massive achievement and is a great effort by the club, our staff and the players, in particular, for putting in some strong performances

“The message to all supporters is get to the ground early. It will be busy and there will be a strain on the turnstiles, especially in the half hour building up to the start of the match.

“Gates open at 4.00pm so we are urging spectators to get in early to avoid congestion at the turnstiles.”

With Yorkshire placed in a strong position in the top half of the North Group, Andrew Gale’s men will be looking to build on their recent performances, similar to 2012 when they went all the way to T20 Finals Day, losing to Hampshire in the final.

“The memories of 2012 are still firmly etched on the players’ mind,” added Arthur.

“They are aware that a few victories on the bounce can build momentum going into the final group matches.

“We have a number of games coming up over the next 10 days at Headingley and we hope that many supporters will be able to join us at our back-to-back home matches next week when we play Leicestershire Foxes on Tuesday July 1 and Durham Jets on Wednesday July 2.

“If we can get on a run over the next week and produce some quality performances we will go a long way to securing our place in the knockout stages of the competition.”

Tickets for the NatWest T20 Blast matches at Headingley on Tuesday July 1 against Leicestershire Foxes and Wednesday July 2 against Durham Jets are available now.
