Dominant Brods ease worries

The forwards provided the foundations for victory with a dominant display, both in the set pieces and in the loose, on a glue pot of a pitch.

Brods played up the slope in the first half and set the tone by denying ‘Boro possession and pressing the visitors’ line.

Following 10 minutes of sustained pressure the visitors finally conceded a penalty under their posts and Phil Town struck the opening blow.

Boro’ worked hard to protect their line and when the lively Dom Georgiou finally broke through the referee adjudged that the ball had not been grounded and a try was disallowed.

The second half followed a similar pattern with Brods dominating, particularly in the lineout.

After 50 minutes Tom Andrews’ cross kick was chased by Eddie Carter on the left wing. Carter did well to recover possession and when the ball was moved right through several phases, Aussie forward Stirling Ross galloped over from 30 metres.

Town’s conversion from the touchline made it 10-0.

Boro’ found new heart and increased their work rate in midfield. However, the Brods pack reasserted itself and won a penalty just inside the visitors’ half on 65 minutes.

Following a kick to the corner and lineout, Brods drive to the try line was repelled. However, from the resulting scrum the Brods pack drove again and Rob Jennings touched down to extend the score.

Brods were disappointed not to add to the scoreline in the final quarter but defended well when required and a clean sheet was testament to the hard work of all the players.
