Elland’s cup semi-final nightmare

A disastrous batting collapse at Shepley yesterday dashed Elland’s hopes of a place in the Huddersfield League’s Romida Sykes Cup final.

The Hulledge high-flyers were 73 for two but the departure of skipper Paul Winrow for 37 triggered a collapse to 87 all out with S.P.Singh (four for 12) virtually unplayable.

Holders Shepley, who had snatched a dramatic win against Elland in the league on the same ground 24 hours earlier, knocked off the runs for the loss of three wickets with Singh unbeaten on 33.

Shepley will meet the winners of next Sunday’s second semi-final between Delph and Dobcross and Hoylandswaine.

SOUTHOWRAM will meet Warley in the Towergate Halifax League’s Crossley Shield final at Triangle on Sunday, August 19.

The Rams beat Sowerby Bridge in a bowl-off yesterday after play had been restricted to just a few overs by bad weather.

The game had been switched to Southowram’s Ashday Lane ground after flooding at Bridge’s Walton Street home.

Warley beat Triangle in the other semi-final on Sunday, June 24.

The Halifax League side’s West Yorkshire Area Council Knockout Cup match away to the South Yorkshire League at Kexborough CC yesterday was postponed before the team travelled.
