Added time sickener for Brighouse

Brighouse Town look increasingly likely to have to settle for a mid-table finishing position in the NPL's first division north after a dramatic 4-3 home defeat by Clitheroe yesterday.

Paul Quinn’s side suffered a third successive loss, going down to a goal in the third minute of added time after an excellent fightback.

It looked all over when seventh-placed Clitheroe stormed into a 3-0 lead inside 20 minutes through Sefton Gonzales, Scott Harries and Brandon Barski.

A fluke goal on 59 minutes, when James Hurtley’s off-target effort was deflected in off Daniel Brady, gave Brighouse a lift.

Three minutes later it was 3-2 with Danny Facey finding the top corner of the net from 12 yards.

When Steve Hollingworth scored at the second attempt with two minutes left the home side looked set to pick up a superb point in the circumstances.

However, Gonzales had the decisive say to leave Brighouse 12th in the table and eight points below the play-off zone.

Brighouse will hope to get back to winning ways on Tuesday, when they travel to Bamber Bridge.

Bridge are immediately below Town in the table and their game at Ossett Town on Saturday was postponed.
