Town are fifth in the National League North, and have two games in hand over three of the four teams above them and the four teams immediately below them. A win at Alfreton could move them to within a point of second place, still with a game in hand.

Halifax are eight games unbeaten, winning six, but were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw at home to Boston on Saturday. But they have kept four clean sheets in their last five games.

Alfreton are without a win in five and are only two points above the relegation zone. Their home game with Stalybridge was called off on Saturday due to a waterlogged pitch.

No other team in the division have conceded more goals than them, with their 2-0 home win over Gainsborough on February 4, former manager Nicky Law’s last game in charge, their only win in their last nine outings.

Law’s former assistant Russ O’Neill took over after Law left to join Burnley, but is still looking for his first win at the helm.

Former Halifax midfielders Adam Smith and Paul Marshall are in the squad at Alfreton, whose top scorer is Craig Westcarr, with 12 league goals.

Town’s left-back Josh Wilde is a doubt for the game after getting a knee in the back on Saturday, which forced him off before full-time.

Winger Josh Macdonald is unavailable with a hamstring injury.
