Boss backs Harrogate Railway understudies to shine

Farquharson has often had to play second fiddle to Cartman’s goalscoring exploits this season, but he has still netted 13 times himself in all competitions.

The powerful forward will lead Railway’s line alone for the first time at Bamber Bridge on Saturday following Cartman’s exit to Darlington 1883.

Miller said: “It’s a great opportunity for him. He has gone about his business in the background all season but has done all that Carts did.

“Now it’s a chance for people to see just how good Malachi is.”

Farquharson spent a two-day trial at St Mirren earlier this month, but the club are still waiting to hear from the Scottish Premiership side.

Another player to have caught attentions in Scotland is goalkeeper Tom Goodwin, who played in a friendly for Alloa against Dundee this week.

However, Miller is confident the 19-year-old will remain at Station View for the next few weeks - at least.

Railway were left frustrated by the cold weather over the weekend as two fixtures against Kendal Town and Spennymoor Town were postponed.

The weather will also threaten Saturday’s fixture at last year’s play-off finalists Bridge, and Miller said his side were “itching to play”.

The boss added: “We are not expecting anything other than a tough encounter. To bring a point back would be a great result.”

The Evo-Stik Doodson Cup tie against Spennymoor has been rearranged to Monday night at Station View.
