Brighouse Town boss drafts plan for local competition

With final decisions still up in the air regarding the Pitching-In Northern Premier League, along with others in Steps 3 to 6, Brighouse Town manager Vill Powell is working on plans for a two-month competition to get his players playing again.

He is keeping his fingers crossed that by April his players and those of others in West Yorkshire could be training so he could roll out the competition that would see Saturday and midweek games played.

He has already spoken to the managers at Emley, Campion, Liversedge, Garforth, Eccleshill United, Garforth Town, Golcar United, Silsden and Pontefract Collieries and they all appear keen to take it on board.

Although it won’t have the same attractive elements of the club’s current Step 4 competition, Powell knows it would be good for the players and the supporters who by then he hopes would be allowed into grounds.

Town's attacking midfielder Thomas Haigh, who turned down a move to Northern Premier Division Matlock Town in the close season, added: “I hope Vill’s competition comes off as it will be the tonic we all need ahead of preparing for what we hope will be an uninterrupted 2021-22 campaign.”
