Brighouse Town: Powell wants to build momentum

Brighouse Town are on the road again on Saturday with their second trip to Liverpool in three weeks, this time to the Bootle-based City of Liverpool (3pm), right next door to Crosby where they gained a superb 2-2 draw with third-placed Marine.

They currently sit mid-table with Town on the same number of points. Town beat them 2-1 in September with goals from Carl Stewart and Darnell Mintus who are no longer members of the squad.

Their results of late under manager Craig Robinson, the ex-player-coach at Warrington Town and brother of Oxford United and former Milton Keynes manager Karl Robinson, have been good and they won 1-0 away at Kendal Town last Saturday.

They play out of Bootle and their average home gate is just over the 500 mark in the football-mad city.

Town’s manager Vill Powell was extremely pleased with the performance and 1-0 win at Pontefract Collieries last Saturday and wants a repeat performance on Saturday.

“We have no injuries and it will be the same squad as the one that represented last weekend who all applauded themselves after our post-match chat in the dressing rooms.

“Everyone put in a tremendous shift and the scoreline could have been much greater but for their keeper on the day and the woodwork just denying Eddie Church.

“The players if they consistently play like that could go on a run and we could with 12 games left still surprise everyone. As they say, it’s not over until the fat lady sings.”

Powell revealed that his top midfielder Thomas Haigh would not be back in action until next month as his broken hand is now in plaster.

Josh Grant filled in well in his position at Pontefract, a position he excelled in at Ossett United on August Bank Holiday in the 2-1 win before reverting to more of a full-back and wing-back role.

Powell has been in talks this week with Sky Bet League One leaders Rotherham United to extend the loan of centre-back Harrison Beeden, 18, until the end of April.

There are similarities with teenage centre-back Rarmani Edmunds-Green who Town had on loan from Huddersfield Town last season.

Edmunds-Green is currently on loan with Sky Bet League Two leaders Swindon Town and got their goal in the 1-1 away draw last Saturday at Carlisle United.

Town are running a coach to Liverpool leaving the Yorkshire Payments Stadium car park at 11.15am.
