A bumper crowd of 515 saw Brighouse Town produce a superb performance to beat Evo-Stik NPL Division One promotion-chasers Salford City 3-1 at St Giles Road.
Among those present were Manchester United legends Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Phil and Gary Neville, who part own Salford and have high hopes of helping to guide them through the non-league pyramid system.
However, they came up against a Brighouse side high on energy and desire while the visitors did not help their cause by having two players sent off.
Town took the lead midway through the first half when Leon Henry stabbed home following a goalmouth scramble before Salford levelled just before the break through former FC Halifax Town striker Gareth Seddon.
Salford’s Lee Neville was shown a straight red card early in the second period and five minutes later Ernest Boafo fired home from the penalty spot to restore Town’s lead.
The game was wrapped up just after the hour when Ryan Hall lifted the ball over the keeper to the delight of the home support.
Salford’s day got even worse when another former FC Halifax Town player, Jason Jarrett, was sent off in stoppage time.
