Withinfields Primary School could be gracing the Wembley turf in May if they win the North East Finals of the National League Trust’s Under 11 Cup.

The team from Withinfields won the area final of the competition, run by FC Halifax Town, at North Bridge Leisure Centre, On February 10, beating schools from Parkinson Lane, Elland and All Saints.

The North East Final is held at Lincoln City on Wednesday (tomorrow), one of four regional tournaments, with the winners going on to play in the final at Wembley.

Steve Nichol, Head of Youth, Junior and Community Football Development said: “We are able to run these events because of the funding we receive from the National League Trust and it fits well with how we want to progress our programmes in schools and the wider community. It would be wonderful if a Halifax school could represent the area in the national final.”

The team from Withinfields have received free coaching sessions from Halifax to help them with their chances of success.
